Ratnagiri : Call for immediate treatment if symptoms of ‘Coxsackie’ occur

Ratnagiri : Hand, foot and mouth infection caused by coxsackie virus. Which we call hand, foot and mouth disease (Ajar) in Marathi. Awahan District Health Officer Dr. Anirudh Athalye has said that they should go to the nearest government hospital for immediate treatment, and if such symptoms appear, the school administration should contact the health department as the disease is contagious.

It is especially common in young children and affects the hands, feet and mouth. Due to this, rough blisters and rashes spread all over the body. This disease usually infects children under 5 years of age. But sometimes older children and adults can also suffer from it. Parents have been told that if there is a problem of rashes on the children, they should immediately go to the government hospital and get treatment.

-Symptoms of the disease:
• Sometimes fever, sore throat, sore throat. • Feeling sick, feeling lethargic. • Ulcers or sores, usually on the back of the mouth, tongue, gums, inside of the cheeks. •A rash on the palms of the hands or sometimes on the buttocks, does not itch but may blister. • Loss of appetite, children are often irritable. In rare cases, the virus can damage the brain or spinal cord, resulting in fever. •Severe effects like dehydration, encephalitis, encephalitis can occur.

Reasons:
•Because the disease is contagious, it is spread from one person to another through nasal and throat secretions, saliva, blister fluid, mucus, or feces.•Personal contact with an infected person. •Coming into contact with a sick person’s sneeze or cough. • Touching contaminated objects, such as (toys or doorknobs), • Exposure to contaminated water such as swimming pools.

Prevention:
•Wash hands and use hand sanitizer.Practice physical hygiene. •Disinfect common areas like door knobs, toys, tables etc. • Keep clothes, napkins or towels clean. •Wear masks in public places and when in contact with sick patients.

When to see a doctor:

  • If the child is less than 1 year, • High-grade fever, unresponsive to oral medication. •Not taking anything by mouth, looks dehydrated, has decreased urine output.•Very irritable, or lethargic and sleeps a lot. • Abscess / rash looks infected with drainage of pus.

Treatment:
There is no specific treatment for hand, foot and mouth disease. But keeping young children hydrated is very important. Also give soft food that can be tolerated when sick. Give milk and orsl (apples) for a few days. The medicine is safe to use to reduce fever and pain. Anti-itch over-the-counter creams and lotions can be used on body rashes/sores on the doctor’s advice.

-Do this:
•Use bleach or sanitizer to disinfect toys. • Wash your hands thoroughly. (especially after changing diapers) • Contact a doctor if symptoms do not improve. • Get complete rest until the fever subsides. •Clean contaminated surfaces.
-Don’t do this:
•Touching eyes, nose, mouth with unclean hands. •Avoid intake of liquids. •Precautions and avoiding medicines prescribed by the doctor. • Sharing drinking cups and eating utensils. •Using medicines without doctor’s advice.
