Saudi FM: Israel wants to change the reality on the ground and destroy two-state solution

Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH — Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said that the Arab and Islamic world is outraged at what is happening in the Gaza Strip. In a press conference at the end of the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh on Monday, he said that Israel wants to change the reality on the ground and destroy the two-state solution.

He blamed the international community for its failure to stop the war in Gaza. “The continuation of the war in Gaza is a failure for the entire international community,” he said.

The Saudi minister called for the importance of accelerating recognition of the State of Palestine, and not giving the international community the opportunity to justify its silence on what is happening in Gaza.

Prince Faisal stated that the position of the Arab-Islamic Summit helps calm tensions in the region. He stressed the need for a permanent solution that consolidates peace in the region.

The minister emphasized the need to lift restrictions on the delivery of aid to Gaza. The priority at the present time lies in stopping the war and ending the suffering of the Palestinians. “The establishment of the State of Palestine is the solution to the conflict in the Middle East. The summit discussed reaching a ceasefire and coordinating measures for that,” he said while emphasizing that the issuance of a unified Arab and Islamic position will have an impact on reaching a solution.

For his part, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit emphasized that there is Arab-Islamic-African cooperation to serve the Palestinian cause, noting that the Palestinian people will succeed in obtaining their rights and that the two-state solution is inevitable.

Aboul Gheit described the decision of the Arab-Islamic summit to move towards freezing Israel’s membership in the United Nations as historic.
