The Konkanites living in the western suburbs have got some relief that the Bandra-Madgaon Special from Konkan to Goa has started on the Western Railway Highway. The long-standing demand for this train was given the green light by the persistent push by the Konkani people and the Pravasi Association. However, due to the stoppage of the special at only a few railway stations on the Konkan route, the train Konkanchi an Soy Goa is causing such displeasure. There was no permanent train going directly from Konkan to the western suburbs. Chakarmanyas living in the western suburbs had to come to CSMT Mumbai or Dadar railway station to reach the village. Due to this, travel associations in Konkan along with Konkan Vikas Samiti continuously pursued to leave separate trains for Konkan from the western suburbs. Finally, the Railway Board gave the green light to the twice-weekly special running between Bandra and Madgaon on the Konkan Railway Highway via Vasai. On the occasion of Ganeshotsav, the Bandra-Madgaon Special started running on the Konkan route from the western suburbs from September 3. Specials running on Wednesdays and Fridays and on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the return journey have no stops at Khed, Sangmeswar, Lanja, Rajapur, Vaibhavwadi talukas. www.konkantoday.com
