Ratnagiri : Under the influence of a low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal, Konkan coastal areas continued to receive rain throughout the day on Monday. According to the yellow alert issued by the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall occurred in some parts of the district on Monday. The agriculture department has expressed a preliminary estimate that agriculture has been damaged in many parts of the district due to this rain.
Paddy cultivation has become horizontal in many places. In some areas, the paddy crop that has been harvested has become horizontal. The Agriculture Department has given instructions to survey it immediately.
The weather department had given a yellow alert two days ago. After this warning was issued, there was a dreary atmosphere in Ratnagiri all day on Saturday and Sunday. But the rain disappeared. On Monday, however, rain lashed Ratnagiri district. It rained heavily in many places during the night as well. As a precaution, Mahavitran cut off electricity in rural areas. It was dark in Ratnagiri MIDC area till 8 pm. Even on Tuesday, the power supply was continuously interrupted. Due to this, water supply was also affected in many areas.
This year there has been good rain for agriculture. The area of ββpaddy cultivation has also increased. However, the return rains are proving to be damaging. The rain that started on Monday evening in Ratnagiri was pouring down heavily even at night. Now paddy cultivation has reached its final stage. However, due to heavy rains in many places, this paddy cultivation has been disrupted.
‘Heavy’ after light showers
In other talukas too, light to moderate rain continued on Monday night. Khed, Chiplun along with Ratnagiri, Sangameshwar talukas were also rained at night. The agriculture department has predicted that the rains that started with light showers and then intensified later caused damage to crops in many areas.
