As soon as the risk of chikungunya increases, the state government has taken a big decision! Pune: The number of chikungunya patients is increasing across the state including Pune. Along with this, different symptoms are appearing in the patients and serious complications are being observed. Due to this, the state public health department has decided to carry out genetic sequencing to check the change in chikungunya virus.

Life-threatening symptoms have been reported in some chikungunya patients. Some hospitals have claimed that it shows symptoms like paralysis and black spots on the mouth and ears. Earlier in the year 2006, 2010, 2016 Chikungunya infection was widespread in the state. At that time, black spots appeared on the body in some patients. Chikungunya comes every five to six years. This year the patients are showing different symptoms and the test reports are also coming negative. Therefore, the change in this virus will be checked by genetic sequencing. National Institute of Virology (NIV) and B. J. Genetic sequencing of chikungunya virus will be done in medical college. Blood samples will be taken from government and private hospitals to determine the infectious sequence of the virus. Hospitals should take two blood samples from a patient and one blood sample for NIV, the other for B. J. should be sent to the medical college. Also, the health department has instructed all hospitals to collect blood samples from patients with severe symptoms and send them for examination within five days. Some hospitals have claimed that chikungunya patients are showing life-threatening symptoms. Information has been sought from these hospitals in this case.
