*Otwane, D-23:-* The fine of Rs 50,000 fixed by the government for those who fell trees without a license is unjust and this decision of the government will have an adverse effect on Sindhudurg district. Farmers in the district depend on trees for their livelihood along with agriculture and for that, trees are planted every year. Therefore, to exclude Sindhudurg district from this government decision, Mangesh Talvanekar, district president of Vitthal-Rakhumai Farmers’ Association has warned to bring a march of farmers to every revenue office in the district. The farmers of Sindhudurga will be hit the hardest as a fine of Rs 50,000 for felling trees without permission has been imposed across Maharashtra. Because in the district 90 percent are farmers and 10 percent are wood traders. Different trees have been planted by their ancestors. Because of their difficulties, they earn their livelihood by selling trees. But the imposition of a fine of Rs 50,000 per tree has caused great distress to the farmers and timber traders. The government should reconsider this tree cutting penalty decision. Because in Sindhudurg district trees regrow in 4 to 5 years as compared to the state. The total area of the district is 50.87.50 Sq. that I. Out of which 10.92 percent is the area of forest department. Therefore, if tree felling is allowed, there will be no problem in Sindhudurga. Alternatively, the government should consider Sindhudurg as a special case and exclude tree felling from the penalty decision. Otherwise, the farmers will show their anger on this decision in the coming assembly and all other local elections. Therefore, Talwanekar has demanded that Sindhudurg district should be excluded from the decision of this unjust tree felling penalty.
