Saudi FM participates in coordination meeting on Gaza situation

MADRIDPrince Faisal bin Farhan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, arrived in the Spanish capital, Madrid, to participate in the ministerial coordination meeting on the situation in Gaza and the steps to implement a two-state solution to the Middle East conflict. The meeting was preparatory to the high-level event in this regard on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi; Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration of Egypt Dr. Badr Abdel Ati, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan; Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit; Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hussein Ibrahim Taha; and Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed Al-Khulaifi.

The delegations discussed the importance of providing all means of support to the international recognition of the State of Palestine in a way that guarantees the fulfillment of the rights of the Palestinian people and serves security and peace in the region and the world at large in the face of extremism, the spread of violence, and the continued violations of international law.

The meeting reviewed efforts to take necessary steps to implement the two-state solution by establishing a Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, considering the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international initiatives.

The members of the Ministerial Committee stressed the necessity of the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation army from the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing and the Philadelphi corridor and the restoration of full control to the Palestinian Authority.

The meeting also discussed the efforts made to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip and the dangerous escalation in the West Bank, the need for an immediate ceasefire, and the entry of sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid to all parts of the Strip.

The meeting addressed the need to stop the expansion of Israeli settlements and activate international accountability mechanisms against all violations of international law and international humanitarian law, to achieve just and comprehensive peace, preserve the rights of the Palestinian people, and achieve security in the region.
