The cyber unit of Delhi Police’s Special Cell has registered a case against Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and his wife for writing offensive posts on social media. The action has been taken for providing false and incorrect information with the intention of damaging the reputation of the Chief Justice and the judiciary.*Delhi Police will say that a complaint was lodged by the Supreme Court’s Admin Security Office on 9 September 2024. The complaint cited offensive tweets and Facebook posts. The post spread misinformation aimed at tarnishing the image of the judiciary. On September 10, 2024, the Special Cell of Delhi Police filed an FIR and started an investigation. The FIR has been lodged under Sections 356, 217, 351, 61(2)(a) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66(c) of the IT Act. A similar case has also come up in West Bengal, where a person was booked by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud has been charged with spreading false information with the intention of defaming and damaging the reputation of the Supreme Court. West Bengal Police said that a case has been registered against Sujeet Haldar of Pulbari at Krishnaganj Police Station. The police said that the news was spread with the intention of creating mistrust among the people and disturbing public peace. Also, the police has also appealed not to believe in fake news.
