‘Voice’ less in Ganeshotsav! Restrictions on acoustic, drum and drum ensembles; Toll, ban on DJ.

Pune: The National Green Tribunal has banned installation of loudspeakers with a capacity of more than 100 watts in each Ganesha mandal, and the inclusion of more than 30 musicians in the dhol-tasha team has been prohibited. In that background, Dr. Kalyani Mandke had filed a petition before the arbitrator. In this, the State Government, Collector, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, Pune Municipality and Pune Police were made respondents. There was a demand for measures to control noise pollution during Ganeshotsav in Pune. The Western Division Bench of the National Green Tribunal passed the order on Friday. In it, the Pune Police along with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board have been ordered to reduce the noise pollution. *’The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board should measure the level of noise pollution daily at three places in the vicinity of each Ganesh Mandal pavilion. The level of noise pollution of the previous day should be written on a board at two places in the facade of each Ganesh Mandal mandapam. These boards should also write that noise exceeding the limit is hazardous to health. Maharashtra Pollution Control Board will be responsible for doing all this and incurring expenses,’ the arbitrator said in the order. Along with this, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board should discuss with the police and determine this capacity after seeing the location of Ganesh Mandal. The arbitrator has also mentioned that the size of the mandap and schools, hospitals and residential buildings in the area should be considered. Prohibition of more than 100 musicians- Digital boards indicating the level of noise pollution in the main square during the immersion procession- Ban on DJs in the immersion procession- Names of violators should be published in newspapers after 7 days of the immersion procession.
