- 66 offenses against illegal liquor; 51 people arrested
Ratnagiri: Since the implementation of the Code of Conduct for the Legislative Assembly General Election 2024 till date, the State Excise Department has registered a total of 66 cases against illegal liquor and 51 of the accused have been arrested. In this registered case, 1 thousand 400 liters of Haatbhatti village liquor, 45.9 bulk liters of country liquor, 56.7 bulk liters of foreign liquor, 9 thousand 274.63 bulk liters of foreign liquor for sale in the state of Goa, 27 thousand 205 liters of chemicals and illegal transportation of liquor. State Excise Superintendent Keerthi Shedge informed that a total worth of Rs 1 crore 19 lakh 14 thousand 300 has been seized along with vehicles such as Eicher Tempo and Maruti Swift car.
The code of conduct has come into force in the state from October 15, 2024 in line with the Assembly General Election 2024. The possibility of production, transportation and sale of illegal liquor cannot be ruled out during the period from the announcement of the program of the Assembly General Election 2024 till the announcement of the results. The State Excise Department has a close eye on illegal liquor, and four teams have been appointed by this department to take strict action against it.
All squads have been instructed to prevent illicit traffic of foreign/illegal liquor, night patrolling, checking of suspicious vehicles as well as prevention of illegal liquor business. Accordingly, these teams are continuously taking action against illegal liquor.
From January 2024 till date, good behavior bonds amounting to Rs.16 lakhs have been taken from the accused who are continuously engaged in illegal liquor business in 28 cases under Section 93 of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949.
Since the implementation of the Assembly General Election Code of Conduct, the Excise Department is inspecting the vehicles carrying passengers and goods on Mumbai-Goa, Kolhapur-Ratnagiri, Chiplun-Karad highways. In order to prevent illegal liquor from being transported by train from Goa state, in coordination with the Konkan Railway Administration, along with the Railway Police, passengers’ baggage is being checked suddenly. Action against illegal liquor by the Superintendent, State Excise Department will continue.
State Excise Superintendent Keerti Shedge has appealed to the State Excise Superintendent Kirti Shedge to contact Excise Department on WhatsApp number-8422001133 and toll-free number- 8422001133 if it is noticed that there is production and sale of handmade liquor, transportation and storage of illegal liquor from outside the state, sale of fake liquor anywhere in the district. is The name of the person giving information/information regarding illicit liquor will be kept confidential.
